Most of us are unaware that this year is the 25th “birthday” of e-commerce as we know it today, once upon a time when 300 baud modems were barely fast enough to download text in real time. On March 4, 1982, Boston Computer Exchange made history by selling a computer electronically, the first baby steps to modern and robust e-commerce transactions today.
Starting out from humble beginnings, BCE expanded its customer base from a single locality to all over the world that simply dialed-in and connected with their now-archaic Alpha 2 database (which is older than the author of this post). It’s a process that was revolutionary back then, but something we take for granted in modern times. Fortunately, we had pioneers like BCE 25 years ago to pave the way for the need of our ECF technology today.
