1. What's the difference between ECF 4.X and ECF G5?
ECF 4.x is our 4th generation commerce platform and is targeted at .NET 2.0, while ECF G5 is targeted at .NET 3.0/3.5 and also has been architected to take advantage of other technologies like Windows Workflow Framework (WWF). ECF G5 is a completely new code base and has been designed from the ground and offers a number of new innovations. 2. When will ECF G5 be commercially available?
Currently ECF G5 is targeted for commercial availability early 3Q 2008. We are working with key partners since August of 2007 and several production sites have already been launched on ECF G5 with more on the way. 3. What is the Early Adopter Program and should I get involved?
If you're a system integrator, ecommerce solutions company, or end customer looking for a strategic multi-channel commerce platform with all the benefits of code re-use, extensibility, and the ability to do things your own unique ways, then you should contact us now.
There are certain requirements that you must meet in order for us to consider you for our partner and early adopter programs, so please contact us only if you are a professional .NET development organization or have a matching IT department and knowledge of this core technology. You must have proven processes, customer deliver successes, and the appropriate infrastructure in place to do business with us.
4. Is there an upgrade path from 4.x to ECF G5?
Yes. Although the code for ECF G5 is completely different than ECF 4.X, Mediachase will be providing some tools for data conversion as well as documentation outlining critical differences that you can use to assess the migration in the future for customers who have adopted ECF 4.x.
5. What are the system requirements for .NET Developers?
ECF G5 requires Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.0/3.5, and SQL Server 2005 or Greater. Developers can use Windows XP SP2 or better or Windows Vista SP1 or better to develop on.
6. How does your licensing work for ECF G5?
ECF G5 has 2 license types. A Source code license that entitles your organization and ANY number of developers within that organization to build, integrate, extend, and change any of the code we provide to you. This developer code license includes support for any number of test, qa, or staging environments required by your process. The second license type is for production deployment and is licensed per processor for any number of sites that you deploy in that production instance.
7. What are some other 3rd party software that has been successfully integrated with ECF G5?
There are a number of existing 3rd party products, technologies, and legacy systems that have been successfully integrated already with ECF G5. These range from shipping providers, payment gateways, social/community software, CRM, ERP, Variable Content Systems, and a pile of other technologies.
