Getting other Categories to show up in the Sidebar

I've created a new catalog and added SKUs to it. The SKUs use a custom meta class that has custom meta fields. I've enabled the catalog (along with the sample "Everything" catalog) for the site.

I cannot, however, figure out how to get these items to show up in the "Shopping Options" sidebar. When I've stepped through the code and see that somehow in SearchControl.ascx that SearchFilterHelper.Current is somehow returns facets for search results that include items from the "Everything" catalog, such as Price and Display Size when digital cameras are returned. However, when only entries from my new catalog are returned, nothing shows up in the sidebar... not even price. What needs to be done to get meta fields from my custom meta types included?
