    Deployment on Shared Hosting

    Hello,

one of our client has their website with a shared hosting provider that doesn't allow full trust.

We have now their restricted .config file and are trying to update our application to meet their requirements.

We are trying to strong naming the assemblies and have also modified the web.config file to <section name="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler, log4net" requirePermission="false"/>  including requirePermission="false" but it looks like we may have some problems with the assemblies contained in the "components" folder, which are not strong named.

The version we are using is 4.1.1
Could you please advice whether this can be achieved or does the hosting must authorize FULL TRUST?

    Many thanks

    Re: Deployment on Shared Hosting

    Hi Juan,

Mediachase does not necessarily have any approved hosting providers since there are so many options and cost structures available depending on your needs.  But in cases where a shared hosting environment is used, FULL TRUST mode is a requirement.  So please ask your hosting company for this capability and hopefully this will be allowed which should resolve your issue.

Here are some other requirements to be aware of:

The baseline requirements to run ECF at a hosting company are:

    a) The provider offers windowss 2000 server/IIS/.NET 2.0

    b) .NET applications can run in FULL TRUST Mode

    c) Support or the ability for you to install Microsoft WSE 3.0 for web services

    d) The provider has SQL 2000/SQL 2005 support

Your other option would be to switch hosting companies.

We do not have a single company we recommend.  As long as the requirements above are met, your decision boils down to cost, level of service and responsiveness, and configuration accessibility which you will need to decide for yourself and for your customer.

    Examples can include...

    -Telephone Support

    -Network Availability/Multiple Carriers

-Amount of Access for you to control and install/configure what you specifically need (Scripts versus Term Services/Control Panel) -Additional value-added hosting services that make sense for you

Of course within this you have many choices including Co-Location, Dedicated, and Shared all of which are really dictated again on cost versus SLA.

Finally, some organizations consider geographic hosting for the purposes of their target or primary customer base.  For example, if you are doing business in the UK you may want to have a British hosting provider.

If you are strictly cost focused, then you can try discountasp.net, easy CGI, or a number of other providers by running a google search on "ASP.NET Hosting" and looking for companies in that space, but be sure to ask first if they meet the requirements above.

I hope this helps and let us know whether your current hosting company works out or who you end up selecting to help us keep track so that we can better provide direct recommendations for our customers in the future.

Cloud computing technology ensures a website maintains high availability and high performance because if there is a high demand for resources, the workload will migrate to another server allowing efficient balancing of the workload. In addition, users can access their cloud from any location in the world as long as they have access to the internet.
